After all the off the field furore regarding takeovers etc it was good to get back to basics and football last night, as a decent looking Carlisle team savaged their opponents with a barrage of second half goals.
Second half goals from Scott Dobie (2), Danny Carlton and a belter from Luke Yoce, provided Carlisle United with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Kendal Town last night.
It was most certainly a game of two halfs, as John Ward gave run outs to his entire first team squad and trialist Dean Nicholson. With goalkeeper Ben Williams making his debut, United went 4-4-2 with Nicholson up front with Graham. United never looked uncomfortable.
It was the second half that the team suddenly burst into life, as Simon Hackney began to surge forward and expose the vulnerability of the home defence. The four nil scoreline could have been greater. It was however, a worthwhile fixture as it allowed John Ward the opportunity to look at everyone and assess fitness and other developmental needs of the squad.
After the game, it was revealed that trialist, Dean Nicholson had been released with no further interest coming from the club. Ward has also said that he hopes to have a couple of new faces in the squad before the season starts, with a striker being one of his priorities.
