Carlisle ground Pompey

Carlisle 4-2 Portsmouth

The last time Carlisle faced Portsmouth was a Carling Cup tie in 2009, at that stage Pompey were a Premier League outfit having just a year before won the FA Cup.

Top-flight football, European adventures and FA Cup finals seem a distant memory for Portsmouth now though with Carlisle giving them a reminder of just where they now are with a win at Brunton Park on Saturday afternoon.

Jake Jervis (13) marked his debut, having signed on loan for Birmingham, with the opening goal early on. This was enough to give Carlisle a half time lead.

Minutes into the second period Danny Livesey (48) extended the hosts' advantage.

Pompey were reduced to 10-men when Kevin Long was sent off for a second bookable offence late on with a late flurry of goals to follow.

Ashley Harris (90) gave the visitors a bit of hope with a late goal but James Berrett (90+2) restored the cushion again only for Conor Clifford (90+3) to hit back instantly to give Pompey hope again!

Pushing on for an unlikely equaliser allowed Carlisle sealed a 4-2 win with Paddy Madden (90+6) netting deep into injury-time to round off proceedings.
