Abbott - I asked for a response and I got it
Greg Abbott wanted his Carlisle side to respond to the midweek defeat to Tranmere in positive fashion against Portsmouth on Saturday, and they certainly did.
The Carlisle boss got the level of "honesty and performance" that he asked for and if he gets that he can't ask much more: 'I asked for a response from Tuesday's defeat against Tranmere and I got it.
'The players showed more effort and in the first 20 minutes they showed what we are all about.
'Everyone has been working for this result since Tuesday. As long as the players give that honesty and level of performance I will be happy.'
It's not a game he would put down as a "classic" but praised the "determination" shown, with this in complete contrast to the Tranmere game: 'Was it a classic? Definitely not. Was it full of effort and determination? It surely was. Compared to Tuesday it was chalk and cheese.'
