Spurs end the Carlisle dream

Carlisle 0-3 Tottenham
Capital One Cup 3rd Round
26th Sept 2012
19:45
Brunton Park

Carlisle's league cup dreams ended for another season when Tottenham proved too strong for them at Brunton Park on Wednesday night in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

Had Carlisle managed to get through to half time level, against a much changed Spurs side, perhaps they could have pulled off an upset but a goal from Jan Vertonghen (37) just before the break meant Spurs went into this break one-nil up.

A killer second came shortly after the interval when Andros Townsend (53) made it two.

The hosts had there chances, both before the second goal and after it, but couldn't manage to convert any of them with a late minute goal from Gylfi Sigurdsson (89) wrapping up a 3-0 win for the Premier League side to earn them a place in round four.
