Chantler Extends Carlisle Stay

Chris Chantler may be out for the rest of the season, however Carlisle aren't risking losing him on a free transfer in the summer as a new deal has been signed.

The 22-year-old defender has been tied down to a one-year extension, which pleases Greg Abbott. He told the official website: 'We know all about Chris and what he can do, and we think he is one who is only going to get better and better.

'He has been really unfortunate with the injury but, in terms of the contract offer, it was never going to make any difference at all.

'We like him and he likes it here, and he's definitely part of the plans as we go forward. He can now concentrate on getting himself fit ahead of next season knowing that this has been done and dusted.'

Chantler has gone on to become an integral part of The Cumbrians' starting XI since his permanent arrivals from Man City in January 2012, having previously spent a spell on loan at Brunton Park so securing his services for next season is great news for the club.
