'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Season Ending

Danny Cadamarteri's season is over.

The former Everton man, who has seen much of his career blighted by injuries, has endured a really injury-hit season for Carlisle this time round.

Knee and ankle problems have been behind the need for the 33-year-old to undergo a "minor operation", something that Greg Abbott, as he told The News & Star, knew was required and hopes he is over soon. He said: 'I think it's something that`s been niggling him for a while.

'Hopefully it's nothing too serious.'

As one door closes though another opens, and injury to Cadamarteri saw Alex Salmon called upon, with him the latest youth graduate to debut this season for The Cumbrians.

The forward was brought on for the closing minutes of the defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend having earned this chance.

Abbott hopes he will take something from this and come back rearing to go for pre-season, adding: 'We thought it was the right time to bring Alex on, and we were trying to get him to nick us a goal.

'He has done very well for the youth team and hopefully he has had a taste of it now and can come back flying for pre-season.'

First-year professionals Brad Potts, Mark Beck, Dave Symington and Josh Todd have all made their Carlisle debuts this season, Salmon becoming number five.
