Carlisle End With Defeat

Carlisle 0-2 Colchester
27th April 2013
15:00
Brunton Park

Carlisle would have wanted to end the season on a high but that wasn't the case as they slumped to defeat at Brunton Park to relegation threatened Colchester.

Following a goalless first half Colchester, who needed a win to guarantee a place in League One, broke through with the midway point of the second half approaching. Billy Clifford's effort came back off the bar but Gavin Massey (65) reacted quickly to head home the rebound.

The U's ended any worries they might have had 10-minutes from time when Tom Eastman (80) headed home another to secure a 2-0 win.

Colchester's nearest relegation rivals Scunthorpe won, but even if Colchester had lost narrowly they would have stayed up. Victory just confirmed this and ended a frustrating season for The Cumbrians in disappointing style.
