Technicality Costs Defender

Had it not been for an error, on his part it seems, then Frankie Simek might have avoided being among those released by Carlisle this week?

Simek, who made 42 appearances for the club this season, is believed (according to The News & Star) to have had a clause in his contract that entitled him to a new deal should he have made a certain amount of appearances.

42 would have been more than surpassed that amount, however the American had to activate this clause within 10-days of hitting his targeted amount and having failed to do this the 28-year-old ended up being among the seven players told they wouldn't be getting a new deal.

Technicalities often work against a club it seems, however Simek's lack of taking advantage of this has cost him this time it appears, as you'd assume that he did want to remain with the club!

Danny Livesey was another in such a position, unlike his former teammate he did activate his clause within the given period so will be at Brunton Park for another season.
