World Cup Finalist Jumped At Carlisle Chance

Playing out your career on the continent would appeal to many wouldn't it?

Not for Pascal Chimbonda though (at this stage anyway) as he has revealed that he turned down offers to continue his career in Europe but jumped at the chance to stay in England and sign a short-term deal with Carlisle.

In fact "everything is perfect" for him at the moment he says.

He claims that teams in France and Portugal wanted him but he wanted to come to Brunton Park to team up with his former teammate Graham Kavanagh, telling the Sun: 'At the moment everything is perfect.

'I had offers from Portugal and France but I wanted to stay in England.

'When this opportunity came up I just jumped at it. It is very different in League One in terms of preparation but the intensity is the same.

'They don't have much money here so it is good for me to help them win games so players can look after their families.'

It's a strange one isn't it?

Not that he's signed for us, but that these offers are said to have been made to him when previously he was spending time in non-league with Market Drayton Town!

A world cup runner up with France, Chimbonda still feels he can play at a higher level and perhaps this time spent with us will enable him to do this once his short-term deal ends?

It'll certainly be interesting to see what happens when this three-months spell does end....
