Defeat Was Incredible And Very Cruel

It wasn't something that they deserved but Carlisle were beaten by Gillingham nevertheless on Saturday afternoon.

Carlisle, try and they might, weren't able to equalise and earlier Gillingham goal and in going in search of an equaliser left them short at the back with a second added before an injury-time goal saw the game end 2-1.

Graham Kavanagh was left in little doubt that his side deserved more and can't believe that Carlisle were beaten.

The Carlisle boss said: 'We dominated most of the game and the defeat was incredible and very cruel. We hit the post and bar and their keeper pulled off saves. They got away with three points while we are left scratching our heads and wondering why.

'I feel the lads should be rewarded for their effort and I am positive we can put it right. Their heads never dropped and overall we were the better team.'

Cody McDonald put Gillingham ahead with Joe Pigott adding a second, the injury-time Leon Legge own goal wasn't anything more than a consolation goal.

Jordan Pickford, signing just hours before the game, was also highlighted for his performance with Kavanagh sure that he'll go on to become 'a top class keeper'.

He added: 'He was outstanding and will become a top class keeper.'
