Carlisle Snap Up Sweeney And Grainger

Carlisle snapped up two players on Friday with Anthony Sweeney and Danny Grainger confirmed as signings.

Hartlepool United midfielder Antony Sweeney will sign a two-year contract with the Cumbrians when his exiting deal officially expires at the end of the month whereas Dunfermline Athletic left back Danny Grainger will sign a one-year deal when his with the Scottish outfit also ends this month.

Both have plenty of experience with 30-year-old Sweeney having been with league 2 rivals Hartlepool for years making 410-appearances for the club and bringing something to Carlisle that Graham Kavanagh feels has been missing.

The Carlisle boss told the official website: 'He's strong and he's capable of going box-to-box which, in turn, helps when it comes to getting or creating goals.'

27-year-old Grainger signs for his local club with that making him more likely to be determined to succeed and win a deal beyond it's initial 12-months.

Kavanagh added: 'It's his local club and I know, from talking to him, that he is determined to make an impact.

'He's another who is aggressive, who has ability on the ball and who likes to attack as well as do his main job of defending.'
