'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Kavanagh: I Want To Play Football

No, Graham Kavanagh isn't saying that he literally wants to play football again himself what the Carlisle boss was saying was that he wants his side to go out an play football.

Sometimes last season opposing managers commented on how well Carlisle sometimes played, with them surprised that the club were in the league 1 relegation that they were, which was obviously lost.

It was thought that an ability to 'scrap' was missing from the side with it too soft perhaps? Well Kavanagh insists that his 'philosophy will never change' as he wants his side to play football but he feels he's brought in players that will allow the side to scrap if needed.

He also feels that the squad he now has, and will yet add to, can do both with the players flexible to play different systems.

Kavanagh told the official website: 'Our philosophy will never change. I want to play football and I want an energetic team that is honest and hard working.

'In terms of systems, I think we need to be flexible. Looking at it now I think we've got a group of players who could play two systems very well.

'We'll see what pre-season brings in terms of more players and the way players perform. If it's a scrap, which some games in league two will be, we can do that. If it's a football game then I think we can mix it with the best of them.

'I'm saying this now, without having seen us play, but I firmly believe these players are capable of doing both of them.'

It's difficult for anyone to cast judgement, as like Kavanagh says this squad hasn't been seen, but you do have to back the manager don't you and trust in what he says after all!
